This Ferrari 308 has not lived a normal life. The idea of swapping out the 2.9-liter V8 with anything else may seem crazy, but this Ferrari wasn’t exactly collector quality. The car was badly damaged in a fuel leak-related fire (what a shock) and was purchased for $10,000. Eric Hutchison of San Diego-based Electric GT decided to bring the car back to life, with an electric powertrain. The electric Ferrari has three AC51 HPEVS electric motors and 48 batteries producing 465 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. The V8 only produced around 200 hp.
To handle the power, the 308 has been fitted with new clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and a Porsche transaxle, mounted upside down. While some EVs do away with a transmission, the Ferrari keeps it for a “clutch-dropping, gear-pounding Ferrari experience.” We like the idea of an electric restomod and would like to seeĀ more cars like this.
